September 2009 Archive

Keep up with the everyday adventures of Wil, Regina, and Aurora! OK, it's mostly Aurora's adventures, but that's what everyone wants to hear about. :)

Why the toy basket had to go...

September 23, 2009

One day, Aurora was playing nicely with her toys.

Her favorite thing to do is to take ALL of the toys out of her toy basket.

But today she decided to try something else.

Something with this weird handle thing.

Something exciting and maybe a bit dangerous.

Something fun and different. Something very unlike her normal playing on the ground.

And she did well. So well that she disregarded her mother's admonitions to be careful.... OK, so she's like 8 months old, she can't understand what I mean, but just look at that face. You can see that sarcastic "oh mother, please!" attitude all over it!

Pride cometh before a fall. Or unsteady legs... or maybe a mother holding a camera who clicked the shutter at just the right point that she didn't see the baby fall until it was too late...

And great was her fall. Or so she made it seem. She actually landed on the soft stuff, then rolled off of it and started crying.

She got "rescued" by Mommy (who felt pretty bad about letting her fall) and was all better like 2 seconds later (which made Mommy feel much better, too). Poor thing scared herself and that's about all. And did she learn her lesson? No, of course not! So now she has a new, nice, steady toy crate. It should be able to handle little arms pulling up on it, but the steady legs are up to the baby. And Mommy doesn't feel like she can let the baby out of arm's reach...

The end.

Shiver Me Timbers! Aurora's so Cute!

September 19, 2009

Today, in honor of Talk Like a Pirate Day, the rest of this post will be in pirate talk.

As the wee lass becomes more mobile, she be enjoyin' th' doorway bouncy swin' more an' more. However, she dasn't generally bounce in 't, she spins. How she keeps from gettin' dizzy, I be nay sure. She can spend 30 minutes at a time spinnin' 'round like this.

And, jus' fer fun, here`s an older video from when she be only 2 moons or so old. If I be recallin' 't correctly, she be tryin' t' tell me she be gettin' hungry. I got th' hint, but she didna get any food 'til I got a bit o' a video o' th' lass'. :) T'ain't she a cutie??

Crib Play Safari

September 17, 2009

I now bring to you, complete and uncut (read: loooong), footage of Aurora in her native environment: the crib! We encountered her when we peeked over the edge of her crib and found her awake and unaware of our presence... then she noticed our camera above her. Let's see what happens...

(This video will take significantly longer to load than the videos I typically upload, it's about 10x bigger. I also apologize for the bounciness and cut off faces/heads, I was trying to keep Aurora from seeing me and it's really hard to guess where she's going from just watching the view screen.)

This next video shows what happens after the blanket hiding our presence was removed. The native was a bit fierce at first, but settled down and seemed to warm up to us...

Finally, the surprisingly friends native decided she wanted to show off the crib bumper her mother made her and finished the visit with expressing her desire to be freed from the crib (what a forlorn face).

I want the camera!

September 16, 2009

Here's another video of our little girl. I'm working on a few more videos and some new photos, hopefully I'll be able to put those up soon. (Here's a new one for you, Mom, so you don't have to keep watching all the other over and over again. Not that this will keep you from doing that anyways.)

Aurora loves the camera and now that she can move, she has started chasing after me whenever I get the camera out.

More Scooting and Fun

September 12, 2009

For my birthday, we visited my parents. My mother had lots of fun playing with Aurora. Here's a couple videos she took while we were there. :)

Climbing and scooting over the island in her Grandma's kitchen...

"Chasing" down Grandma...

And one more of her playing with her newly accessible "toys"--mommy's pots and pans. They're her favorite toys right now. In fact, as we speak (or read, as the case may be) she has cleaned out my tupperware shelf and is spreading it across the kitchen floor. Fun, fun.

The Day the Music Died...or Made Us Want to Kill It

September 04, 2009

Remember the dragon?

Yes, the dragon.

Well, the poor dragon had an accident involving a big person's foot (not mine!). Unfortunately for the dragon, he has a music box in his neck, which doesn't squish as well as the rest of his body. Now his music sounds sick. I hope it dies soon.

Wil thinks the music can be saved with a little bit of surgery. I think he might be able to do it, but we'll regret it once Aurora figures out how to push the button... or maybe we won't, if the music keeps living on in its grotesque existence rather than dying like it ought to. I certainly don't want to hear that rendition of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" a million times over.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. Or just put the music out of its misery.

Misery Loves Company

September 02, 2009

Yep. Today has been a miserable day at the Wade household. Aurora cries unless she is held. Teething gel, baby Tylenol, gas drops, naps, etc. don't help. She's just not a happy baby. Poor thing, if it's teething I hope she gets over it soon. Well, whatever it is, I hope she gets over it soon. But for now, let me show you what my day has been like....

And any time that I set her down, I would get this response:

Poor kiddo. Now I need to go pick her up again, I hate to let her cry for long....
